Our Course
The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is an undergraduate degree program in India focused on the study of Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine native to India. BAMS is a comprehensive course that integrates the principles, concepts, and practices of Ayurveda, preparing students to become proficient Ayurvedic practitioners.
Here's an overview of the BAMS program:
Duration: The BAMS course typically spans five and a half years, including a one-year internship. The academic curriculum covers various aspects of Ayurvedic medicine, including theoretical knowledge, practical training, and clinical experience.
Curriculum:The BAMS curriculum includes subjects such as:
1. Basic Principles of Ayurveda: Covers fundamental principles, philosophy, history, and concepts of Ayurveda.
2. Anatomy (Rachana Sharir) and Physiology (Kriya Sharir): Studies the structure and functions of the human body according to Ayurvedic and modern perspectives.
3. Ayurvedic Pharmacology and Pharmacy: Focuses on herbal medicine, medicinal plants, preparation of Ayurvedic medicines, and their therapeutic uses.
4. Pathology (Roga Vigyan) and Diagnostic Procedures (Nidana): Deals with the study of diseases, their causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and prognosis according to Ayurvedic principles.
5. Ayurvedic Therapies and Treatments (Chikitsa): Covers various treatment modalities like Panchakarma, herbal treatments, dietetics, yoga, and lifestyle interventions.
6. Gynecology and Obstetrics (Prasuti Tantra and Stri Roga): Focuses on women's health, including pregnancy, childbirth, and related disorders.
7. Community Medicine and Preventive Healthcare (Swastha Vritta): Emphasizes preventive healthcare measures and community medicine practices in Ayurveda.
Internship: After completing the academic coursework, students are required to undergo a one-year compulsory internship at Ayurvedic hospitals or healthcare centers. During this period, they gain practical experience by working under the guidance of experienced Ayurvedic physicians.
Licensing and Practice: Upon successful completion of the BAMS program and internship, graduates are eligible to register with the respective state or central council of Indian Medicine. They can practice as Ayurvedic doctors, prescribe Ayurvedic medications, and offer holistic healthcare services following the principles of Ayurveda.
